August Birthstone ~ Peridot

Peridot is a stone of lightness and beauty. It also bring abundance and prosperity. Peridot is said to host magical powers and healing properties to protect against nightmares and to bring the wearer power, influence, and a wonderful year.

The peridot stone can be extremely beneficial to those who are having self-esteem problems. The stone enhances confidence and assertion without aggression. It helps a person see their own light and recognize that they are deserving of love. It is invigorating and rejuvenating, promoting access to ones inner vision and joy.

“Pele”  by Susan Seddon Boulet

As peridot is a gemstone that forms deep inside the Earth and brought to the surface by volcanoes, in Hawaii, peridot symbolizes the tears of Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanoes.

Black Salt for Protection

During the waning moon, I like to whip up a fresh batch of Black Salt. The Waning Moon means the moon is decreasing in size, moving from the Full Moon towards the New Moon. This is a time for works that banish, release, reverse. It is also the appropriate time for purification and cleansing. Since Black Salt is used for these same purposes, I spend the fourteen days following the full moon to create and charge a few batches of it.

Known also as Sal Negro, Witches Salt, Drive Away Salt, Voodoo Salt and Santeria Salt, Black Salt has many uses. It is used in spells and rituals involving banishing magick, as added protection against negative energy and to remove hexes and jinxes. It may be sprinkled around your home or property, added to banishing sachets, incenses, and herbal mixtures. A little Black Salt goes a long way.

To make your own batch, you will need a few key ingredients.
Traditionally one would use cauldron scrapings, however in a pinch you may also use fire ash, charcoal, black pepper, or black dye.

* 2 parts sea salt
* 1 part scrapings from a cast iron pot

I go a little bit further because I like to super charge mine. Besides using the waning moon I also like to add the following.

* Clary Sage Essential oil (about 4 drops per every cup of salt)
Clary Sage Oil is good for Protection, cleansing house from negativity, and to use for banishing rituals to remove bad spirits.

* White Sage Leaves Crushed (about 2 medium leaves Per Cup)
Good for Cleansing and Protection.

* Small Jet Stone (crushed)
Jet has been used extensively for protection against evil and all negative energies. Also for purification of energy and vibrations.

* If possible, use pot scrapings after you have burned a mixture of protective herbs in the cauldron.

Once you have pulled your ingredients together, making the salt is simple. In your mortar and pestle, grind up your scrapings, ash or charcoal. Once it is powdered, mix it with your salt and continue mixing until the salt is black. Crush and mix the salt and scrapings together while concentrating on banishing energies and while thinking about all the ways you need to be protected. Bottle it up for future use.

Uses Include:

* Keeping in a dish under your bed or in a little bag under your pillow to negate bad dreams.

* Add a pinch to floor washes to cleanse your home, front walkway, & ritual area of negativity.

* Use to symbolize the waning moon, eclipses, & new moons. These are times for endings, binding work, trance & journeying to Under Realms, & uncrossing or removing curses.

* Add to War Water, Hot Foot Powder for extra potency.

* Sprinkle around your property line to protect your home and garden area.

* It can be used like sand painting to draw circles, runes, or other symbols on the altar or workspace.

* Mitigate the negative effects of Mercury Retrograde.

* Sprinkle liberally on items or possessions that you feel have bad memories or attachments to them.

* Cast a line across your doorways & windows to keep out evil, avoid unwanted company, and reflect slander or jealousy back to the source.

* When a spell or ritual calls for a strong circle of protection, black salt can be used.

* For Spirit Callings & Ancestor works and Samhain rituals.

* Throw into a fire along with paper where you have written all your worries and whatever else you want to be rid off.
Please remember: Not to be confused with black lava salt or kala namak salts used in fine cuisine. Ritual black salt is not for consumption!

I hope you found this useful and can give it a try. If you find you just don’t have the time to make your own, feel free to use this link to purchase some of my Super Charged Black Salt.

An Unexpected Sabbatical

The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.
~ Ernest Hemingway

In October of 2012 I had a very clear vision of where our Journey was leading. The plan was to relax and refresh for the remainder of the year and then start 2013 strong with a new location in south Florida and a year full of travel and exploration. In October I did not know what was waiting for us in December.

I remember watching Oprah give an interview years back and she was speaking about the way the universe delivers messages. She explained  that at first it will toss a brick your way….if the message isn’t received, the wall comes tumbling down on you. If you still ignore the message it has no choice but to drop the whole dang house upon you. I was unaware of how heavy my house was until December. The crushing weight came in the form of a cancer diagnosis for my beloved spiritual mother, Glenda. Needless to say, our plans were tossed aside and we spent 2013 by her side. No store opened down south…no travelling. Just soaking up as much of her as we could and surrounding her with love.  An Unexpected Sabbatical. A year of shared dreams, hopes, memories. Sitting for hours on the porch watching the river flow on. In awe of every sunrise and sunset.

Turned out the second story of our house started collapsing on us as well. As the year progressed my Mother in Law was getting further away from the chances of a liver transplant.  Both Of these Irish beauties were the young age of sixty. Both such joyful beings who everyone loved being near.  In September, both of these amazing women were put on Hospice. We lost my Mother in Law, Linda, in October. Glenda followed the first week of December. We were in the darkest winter of our lives.

They say for everything there is a season.

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to tear and a time to mend,

This is the season for our return. A time for us to mend our plans and continue forward with our dreams. Our feet are still a little shaky…but every day they get stronger. We walk forward with purpose and the promise of great things to come. Guided by our new Angels, we step into the future with excitement and hope.
