Tick Tock Goes the Clock

“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice.”

~ T.S. Eliot ~

Another year is drawing to a close. The interesting thing about the end of a year is how it acts quite differently than most other things that are coming to a close. The is a lot of energy surrounding this time. Instead of being run down and done, we find a sense of excitement and hope. Okay, maybe we are feeling a little run down, but it is the kind of feeling you have after running 10 miles and the finish line is within sight. You might be exhausted, but a sudden burst of energy comes over you and you go a little faster!

I, myself am extra excited to be on the threshold of 2012. Partly to be away from this year and partly because I have a feeling, deep within, that is saying it will be a wonderfully transforming year for me, for us all. To insure 2012 is indeed transforming, I have decided to step up my “End of Year” rituals a bit. I want to have closure on the lessons of 2011 and be prepared for the opportunities of 2012. Usually I just take some time for quiet reflection and then come up with my New Years Resolutions. Eat some black-eyed peas and voila! The day is done. This year I have chosen a few other rituals that I feel would be nice.

First, I will clean the slate so to speak. Today I will clean, organize and clear the clutter.  I will collect and return anything borrowed and donate the things I no longer need. I will also try to achieve a clean slate in all my relationships. Is there anything I need to say to someone? Do I need to apologize or just say some words of praise. I want to say those things now while I have the opportunity to.

Next I will take a moment to look back upon this year and make a list of the things that I did not like about it. Write down all the bad, so to speak. Situations I didn’t like being in, People I found to be in conflict with me, and other problems that crept up. After compiling the list I will go through it and make sure I have full closure. In my mind I will forgive the people, make note of my lessons learned so there is no need to repeat them, and release any fear and anger I have held onto due to these things. Then, as I have for years, I will burn the paper. Releasing these things from me. There is something about burning this list that really allows me to move past those events.

Of course, to balance it all, I then take some time to make a journal entry of all that was Good this past year. The moments that made me smile, the people I am blessed to have spent time with or know, the memories I will want to cherish. I will not rush myself with this list. This is the good stuff! I want to make sure I give myself plenty of time to remember and dwell on these things.

After that, I will Smudge my house with Sage. I will fill every room with the sweet smoke from this sacred herb so that it my cleanse all the energy around me. Once I have finished I will open every window and allow all stagnant old energy to be blown away and I will invite fresh positive energy in, Invite the New Year in.

Now I will turn my Focus to the Year ahead. The first thing I want to do is Name the Year. This is a little something I have found so helpful throughout my life. One simple word that will be a reminder of my plans, my goals, my dreams. Something simple but meaningful. For me, 2012 will be The Phoenix. I plan on rising from the ashes this year.

Next I will plan for the year ahead. I actually do this in a few ways. First is making a list of my New Year’s Resolutions. I have found that Goals are so very important for all of us. The first thing I do is make a list of what my top goals are. Then I want to look at each of those and set smaller goals, milestones if you will, that are the steps needed to accomplish the big goal. This extra planning is what can make all the difference in accomplishing the list. Every time you can cross a small goal off the list you have added pride and energy. It is nice to see movement in the right direction and have that sense of accomplishment. These small victories inspire you to keep reaching towards the big one.

One of my Favorite rituals is what I call treasure mapping, also known as creating a Dream Board. This is a fun way to create something to inspire you every day. Take a piece of poster board and Dream Big! I like to put on it photo’s representing where I would like to travel to, things I would like to have, something I would like to learn. Really, how you create this is up to you. I find it easiest to take photos from magazines and just have a very visual board with a few key words on it. Throughout the year, as I move forward, my board might change. I might add to it, or take things off as I accomplish them or no longer want to head in a certain direction. Once completed, hang this somewhere you can see it everyday. It will inspire you and keep you focused.

Finally, after all of these, I will eat some black-eyed peas with ham. Because a girl can never have too much Luck or Prosperity!

“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”

One of my Favorite things about this time of Year is Finding Gifts for the Stockings. I know most people get all excited about the big ol’ boxes under the tree but for me, finding special treats to fill up those hanging socks is the Best! the “Alchemist”

If you have ever Journeyed into our store,  chances are you recognize one or more of these faces. This is Us! When we say Crystal Connection is Locally Owned & Family Operated we are speaking of this Family right here.  This is an image of the path we are journeying. For years we tried to find a ” balance”  between Work and Play, The Store and Our Family, and Meetings and “Me” time. However, it always seemed like an impossible feat. One day I simply gave up…I let go.  I stop struggling to find balance and simply focused on the “now”.  And something happened! Life Happened. I released my anxiety and found that focus came once I realized the “Moments” that I felt needed to have their own time and place kinda fit together on their own. Life would dictate who needed what and at what time, and it was my job to be calm and collected so that I could do what was required, when it was required. My Life is messy! Turns out it doesn’t really like to be planned and scheduled.

Magazines and Expert Opinions are not as good at filling my store like our Costumers. Turns out they know what they want a little better than some trade show.  Computer programs are not very good at auto scheduling my employees because our computer doesn’t realize that availability does not directly translate into being a morning person. And my children prefer doing their homework at the store where they can socialize a little after school ( and where they are a safe distance from a room that needs cleaning).  So, after a long time of plotting and planning and trying to make Life neat and orderly, it turns out it enjoys being LOUD, chaotic and very messy ( much to the dismay of our beloved OCD employee).

Oddly, this does not directly translate into the look and feel of the Crystal Connection.  On a daily basis I have someone say they have ducked into the store for a little Peace and Calm. Many stop by seeking refuge from the hustle and bustle of their own lives and like to take a moment to breathe in the Serenity they find there. And in this we bear witness to the Magic. Alchemy right before our eyes. We are managing to take Our Chaos and turn it into a Piece of Nirvana for Others.  And that has been the goal all along. Now if only I could figure out how to make this same miraculous event transpire at home! :0)

Namaste!

“Personal transformation can and does have global effects. As we go, so goes the world, for the world is us. The revolution that will save the world is ultimately a personal one.”

~ Marianne Williamson ~

Being a retail store ( among many other things)  many would say we should start with Our mission statement. However, like most of the world at the moment, we find ourselves in the midst of some very big change and so….I will simply start with this quote.
